Wild Weather: Blizzards
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Lorraine Jean Hopping and Jody Wheeler
Average review score:

An extremely well written book about a difficult subject.
Lorraine Hopping's Blizzard book described a difficult subject in a captivating manner.I read it to my grandchildren who have not experienced such a weather phenomena in Dallas but were able to understand the concept of a blizzard and its effects on the body.

My students got 'chills' reading this book.
Blizzards really motivated my kids to go beyond our science class and learn more about weather.

Wild Weather: Floods
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (March, 2001)
Authors: Lorraine Hoping, Lorraine Jean Hopping, and Jody Wheeler
Average review score:

Excellent attention grabber
I bought this book for my two grandchildren, age 5, who listened intently throughout the story. We had a good follow-up discussion about flooding and the effects of this weather phenomena, which they had never witnessed. I want them to have an increased interest in science, plus aid them in their reading skills and, as a former English teacher, I think this was an effective book. I was also pleased that it featured a female scientist, as my grandchildren are girls.

Weather books kids love
My nieces and nephews were gripped from the start--the story of a flood in Vermont. We don't live in a flood area, but this book got them really interested in the topic. I went out and bought the hurricane and tornado books, which they also loved. (We *do* live in tornado country, so that book was especially relevant.) They now read the books on their own, which is just great, since none of them really like to read.

Wild Weather: Lightning!
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (March, 2001)
Authors: Lorraine Jean Hopping and Jody Wheeler
Average review score:

A high recommendation from a "Lightning State"
I thought this book was very well-illustrated for young children. The charts and tables and diagrams were easy to understand, and attracted interest in the text. This was an important book for me to read with my grandchildren because we live in New Mexico, where lightning is an almost daily event. As with the Floods book in this series, it features a female scientist and young girls in the illustrations, which really helps my granddaughters to relate to the information. The science is clear. My granddaughters really grasped the concepts, and could even use the book to observe our lightning storms. For example, the books says to close your eyes right after a lightning strike and you can see the pattern of the lightning, in miniature, on your eyelids. It really works!

One of their favorites
The kids like all the books in this series--hurricanes, tornadoes and lightning being the favorites. They're easy to read and present the science in a very engaging and friendly way. I like the mix of personal stories and science information, especially.

Wrapped in Wishes (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Cloth))

The Best of Both Worlds with Wrapped in Wishes
I found a mention of Wrapped in Wishes on a website several years ago when it won a Waldenbooks award. On that recommendation, I read it and found it to be an extraordinarily original and distinctive time-travel romance.

Chloe Plum is a law professor in contemporary New Orldeans whose personal life is in a mess. Her fiance betrayed her. She suffers a miscarriage soon afterwards and finds out she cannot have children. She then begins to suffer from debilitating insomnia during which she distantly hears a baby crying.
She reluctantly decides to try hypnotherapy for her insomnia. In doing so, she slips into the life of a past ancestress in Victorian times. What is even more surprising is her ancestress's problems parallel those in Chloe's own life.

Olga Bicos does an amazing job with the plot: she keeps two different timelines in dialogue with each other and periodically drops in coincidences to have the two timelines reflect back on each other. The reasons for the time-travel are complex and compelling.

This is a wonderful time-travel that is on my Top Ten Romances of All-Time list. This time-travels comes right under Diana Gabaldon's Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber for me. Wrapped in Wishes reminds me of Linda Howard's Son of the Morning in a lot of ways, but this one was first and in many ways better.

A truly wonderful book
I rarely read books by authors that I am not familiar with these days. I have so many series that I try to keep up with that I rarely stray. The title of this book is what caught my eye and I was not disappointed at all. It is a wonderful story that spans the ages. The chracters are vivid, and while the latest craze has been these "timeswept" novels this book stands far above many of the rest. Not only does the premise not make you laugh for a long time, it almost makes you wistful. It is a wonderful book by a very powerful author.

Hilarious!!
I bought this book with the intention of reading one or two stories a day. I couldn't put it down. I was laughing out loud and my children begged me to read them what was so funny. I would read them some and they enjoyed it as much as I did. What started out as a month or so of giggles turned into an afternoon of belly-laughs.

Makes you wish you were there........
Although listed as Young Adult Reading this a book for all who love a good tale bedded in truth and history. If you have ever shot, handled, or even looked at a Firearm, you will enjoy this well written novel. The Author has taken very few liberties with the actual historical records. He presents the expreiences of a 15 year old Apprentice Smith and his involvement in the introduction of Gun Powder and Firearms to England in the 1300's. The story is well populated with the real participants involved in this time of great change. This is one of the most enjoyable History lessons you will ever experience.
